Change
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines "change" as "to make different in some particular," or "to replace with another." Apart from the English lesson, what is the purpose of this piece? Well class, the purpose is to hopefully distinguish between change for good purposes, and when it is best to leave well enough alone. Ultimately though, the even more meaningful purpose is to highlight the real "Agent of Change," Who at the same time, remains the Same. He is "I Am."
I am going to make a bold call for change, change in the way we conduct our business affairs. Therefore this paragraph is directed to the "money changers, " who have almost singlehandedly brought "equal opportunity" to fleecing of their fellow citizens and quite a few foreign nationals as well. These money changers changed well established "rules of engagement" of financial accounting and replaced them with schemes that make Charles Ponzi look like an amateur.
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," became "do to others what you hope they are too stupid to do to you." And it worked magnificently...for a long time. Then those chickens who always find a way to come home to roost, came home.
Lest there be any confusion, I am not referring solely to the outright Ponzi schemers. There are many money changers who run "establishment businesses" who do not have entirely clean hands. They have lowlife friends in high places, so their bottom lines are "tarpaulined" over.
How can we force change on the money changers and their enablers? We can learn their modas operandi, and spot their "can't miss" deals an ocean away, and flee. We can learn not to emulate them. We can learn the very valuable lesson that not all burglars wear ski masks. Some come in Armani. Without willing and masochistic victims, they will close shop.
Politically, we keep hearing about "change." I am ready to jump on that bandwagon, but I have stringent terms. I want to see a change in the murder rate, of unborn babies, murdered in their mothers' wombs. I want to see "pork" on plates at a diner, or in an oven, not in Congressional bills. I want to see less political figures place themselves in a position to be indicted for graft. What is the last count? Two or three this week alone? OH, I almost forgot. I want to see the refrigerators of politicians continue to be used to store Sara Lee desserts and other food groups, not thousands of dollars in "donations." Those are all changes that I can believe in!
So, in the midst of "change," do we want to stop and perhaps hold onto Someone Who is unchanging, calm amidst the chaos? Yes, we do. I know just that Being. He has been my Rock, my Salvation, my Guiding Light, my Advocate, My All! He keeps me sane in this insane world. He is why I do not need Prozac, Valium, or any opiates/drugs of any kind. As a matter of fact, He is the sole reason why I can face each day with aplomb and grace.
Romans 1:25 (New King James Version)
25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.Malachi 3:6 (New King James Version)
6 “ For I am the LORD, I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
Proverbs 14:34
34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
Psalm 123:3-4
3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.
Proverbs 4:27
27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
Proverbs 24:1-2, 10, 16-22
2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
19 Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked:
20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:
22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
Luke 5:36-39
36 And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.
37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.
39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.
