A Call for Prayer for this Nation-Day Twenty

Upfront disclaimer: I am acutely aware that we are not deserving of God's grace. Still, I am going to, on behalf of this nation, metaphorically throw myself at God's feet and beg for his grace and mercy. May He be gracious to us and help us to make the right decisions on Tuesday 11/4/08.

My fervent hope is that, should He grant the desires of quite a few of our hearts, and not deliver us into the hands of any prospective leaders who refuse to bend to His will, that we will be sufficiently grateful, and work to restore the religious precepts upon which this nation was founded. Headline making events, especially those serious national financial difficulties, that we have all been talking about, may just create a timeliness that could make us return to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Now that many of the accoutrements of properity and the fat of the land, have been stripped away with the huge loss in value in the US dollar, and the much talked about collapse of the credit swaps way of doing business, we could be ripe to more readily accept God's mercy and grace.

On 9/11/2001, we had a reminder of the evil of men, and by 9/12/2001, many of us were rediscovering God, the same God that we had callously disregarded for eons. We simultaneously rediscovered a love of country, evidenced by the Flags that began popping up all over vehicles, residences, and other edifices. Whether we realize it or not, if we do not make the right choice and install God-fearing, country-loving leaders, 9/11/2001 and its aftermath could pale in comparison to what could be an accelerated and further dismantling of the spirituality and uniquely American culture of this country, from within.

In my daily shout out to God for mercy and grace, I usually read Psalm 91 and Psalm 143, among other passages of Scripture.

Proverbs 30:5-9

5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

7 Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:

8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

Psalm 71:1-6

1 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.

2 Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me.

3 Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.

4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.

5 For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.

6 By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee.

Psalm 91:1-11

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Psalm 143:1-2, 8-12

1 Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.

2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

9 Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.

10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

11 Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name's sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble
.

12 And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.
